Job summary

Securicare is seeking Security Guards to support healthcare security operations in Powell River as part of the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) portfolio. You will be responsible for access control, proactive patrols, incident response, and collaboration with healthcare teams in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The role requires strong situational awareness and the ability to respond effectively under pressure, with a pay rate of $24.50/hr at Qathet General Hospital, Powell River.

Qualifications

• Valid BC Security Guard License.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse individuals in a healthcare setting.
• 1+ year of security experience, preferably in hospital/healthcare.
• Excellent observational and problem-solving skills with composure under pressure.
• Basic computer skills for report writing and incident documentation.
• Ability to complete detailed reports, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Post-secondary education in Police Foundations, Community Justice Services, or Law Enforcement is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Monitor entry points and control access to the healthcare facility, verifying credentials and authorizing entry for authorized personnel.
• Conduct regular patrols of the facility, interior and exterior, to deter unauthorized access and identify security threats.
• Respond promptly to security incidents, including medical emergencies, disturbances, and safety hazards.
• Follow protocols for emergencies (lockdown, evacuation drills) to keep patients and staff safe.
• Interact with patients, visitors, and staff calmly and respectfully; resolve conflicts as needed.
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage volatile situations and prevent violence.
• Monitor cameras, alarms, and surveillance for suspicious activity and breaches.
• Document all incidents and observations; complete incident reports and notify relevant personnel.
• Collaborate with healthcare staff to address security concerns and coordinate emergency responses.
• Communicate with external stakeholders like law enforcement for coordinated responses.
