Job summary

Bombardier is seeking a Section Chief, Materials & Processes Engineering, Operation Support, to lead the Saint-Laurent/Montreal-area team responsible for aircraft primary structures. You will guide an IPDT and ensure compliance with applicable standards while driving cost, schedule, and quality objectives.

You will oversee technical leadership, define goals for engineers, and apply Bombardier’s excellence methodologies to optimize processes and collaboration with partners and customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or materials engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years aerospace experience.
  • Broad knowledge of materials and processes for major aircraft structures.
  • Experience with Development Program phases: JCDP, JDP, PDR, CDR.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers to support manufacturing of aircraft primary structures.
  • Plan, oversee, coordinate, and prioritize activities to meet quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Provide technical leadership to all team members to meet program requirements.
  • Define individual goals and expected results aligned with company objectives.
  • Apply Bombardier Operational Excellence to improve processes and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with other departments, customers, and partners/suppliers.
  • Provide visibility on execution, issues and escalations to the supervisor.
  • Maintain knowledge of developments in materials and processes.
  • Support manpower planning and budget preparation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the sector and reduce waste.

What are your contributions to the team?

In your role, you will lead the Materials & Processes Engineering team that supports production activities of the Saint-Laurent manufacturing center. You will work in a dynamic environment, as part of an integrated product development team (IPDT), where you will put in place optimal solutions for major aircraft structure.

  • Lead a team of engineers that will ensure the required support to the manufacturing of aircraft primary structures, by ensuring understanding and compliance of all the standards that are applicable to Materials and Processes
  • Plan, oversee, coordinate, and prioritize activities to achieve department quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership to all team members to accomplish Program requirements.
  • Define individual goals and expected results for employees aligned with company objectives.
  • Apply Bombardier Operational Excellence and other methodologies to implement and improve business processes, enhance customer satisfaction, and meet strategic goals.
  • Ensure effective management of all tasks by closely working with other Engineering departments, internal and external customers, and Major Partners/Suppliers.
  • Provide visibility on the execution, issues, and escalations, as needed, to your immediate supervisor.
  • Maintaining technical knowledge and awareness of developments related to the relevant materials and processes
  • Supporting manpower planning activities and budget preparation.
  • Be responsible for continuous improvement in your sector, ensuring adherence to plans of all deliverables, supporting production delivery schedule, reducing waste, and improving processes.
  • Manage the performance and development of all team members and show strong leadership qualities.
How to thrive in this role?
  • You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical or materials engineering from an accredited university.
  • You have a minimum of ten (10) years of equivalent experience in aerospace.
  • You have a broad knowledge of all the materials and processes that are used for the manufacturing of major aircraft structures, both made of metallic and composites. You have previous experience with phases of a new Development Program: JCDP, JDP, PDR, CDR, etc.
  • You are an energetic person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a high sense of commitment, and a willingness to accept responsibilities while acting independently.
  • You have excellent management skills for influencing others, conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • You demonstrate leadership, have very good analytical skills, are flexible, have a great sense of initiative and can work with minimal supervision.
  • You have flexible schedule to support urgent technical issues during evenings, weekends, and winter/summer shutdowns.
  • You are results oriented, can work under pressure and cope with the sense of urgency.
  • You have excellent communication skills in French and English (written and oral).
