Job summary

City of Richmond Hill is seeking a Seasonal Labourer to support winter control operations, park maintenance, pruning, repairs to park infrastructure, and litter collection across city facilities.

The role reports to Parks Supervisors, requires a High School Diploma (post-secondary in related fields is an asset) and a valid Ontario G driver’s license. Shift work includes days, evenings, weekends, and on-call standby for the contract period.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Post-secondary education in parks operations, horticulture, arboriculture is an asset.
• Intermediate First Aid with CPR C and AED certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain parks and municipal properties as part of a crew.
• Investigate and report public enquiries to the Foreperson.
• Follow OHSA and City policies and practices.
• Work various shifts including days, holidays, evenings and weekends.
• Be on standby for the duration of the contract.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Parks Supervisor(s), the Seasonal Labourer position will be responsible for performing various tasks including winter control operations, park and trail pruning, repairs to park infrastructure and waste and litter pickup throughout the City of Richmond Hill.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Work within a crew to maintain various parks and municipal properties
• Investigate, assist and/or take corrective action for enquiries from the public, reporting issues to the Foreperson
• Perform duties in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and City policies, procedures and practices.
• Able to work various shifts including days, statutory holidays, evenings and weekends
• Required to be on standby for the duration of the contract
• Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma
• Post-secondary education in parks operations, horticulture, arboriculture, or related fields is an asset
• Intermediate First Aid with CPR C and AED certification

Required Skills/Knowledge

• Experience in the operation of various winter maintenance equipment used in parks and road allowance (e.g. sidewalk machines (tractors), hand shovelling and salting)
• Experience in horticulture, parks maintenance, and road maintenance and operations
• Sound knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment application for several functional areas of parks maintenance work
• Exercise some independent judgment and initiative
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Can effectively work under pressure and handle difficult customer situations
• Physically able and competent to perform the physical demands of this position under adverse weather and site conditions
• Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
