The Town of Oakville is seeking a Gardener for a temporary full-time position to plant, prune and maintain trees, shrubs, and flower beds on Town properties, following IPM practices and safety rules.

The role reports to the Horticulture Supervisor and requires a diploma in horticulture, 2–3 years of parks experience, a valid Ontario driver’s licence, and a MOE Landscape Exterminator License. Contract runs about two months with a 40-hour week.

Qualifications

• Diploma in horticulture or equivalent education and experience.
• 2–3 years’ practical parks horticultural work experience.
• Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence Class G and clean driving record.
• Knowledge of Highway Traffic Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• IPM knowledge and disease/insect control familiarity.

Responsabilités

• Design floral and shrub areas and schedule work.
• Operate tools safely and perform daily circle checks on equipment.
• Supervise part-time staff and train others in safe tool use.
• Maintain daily electronic records of work activities and logs.
• Apply safety procedures per OHSA and road-work policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
