Job summary

GreenFirst Forest Products is seeking a Seasonal Forestry Silviculture Assistant to support field and office silviculture operations in Timmins, Chapleau or Kapuskasing, ON. The role involves travel between communities and assisting with forest management planning, certification, and annual program delivery.

Term: 4–8 months (May–Aug 2027, potential March–Oct 2027). Accommodations and a work truck are provided.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled or graduated from College/University in Forestry or related field.
  • 1–3 years related experience is an asset.
  • Valid Class G or G2 Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and provide a safe workplace and support Health & Safety program.
  • Monitor treeplant contractors and perform quality control.
  • Support aerial tending, site preparation, free-to-grow and other silvicultural programs as required.
  • Assist in implementing Forest Management Plans and document progress.
  • Support forest operations team with surveys and inspections.
  • Develop and maintain rapports with contractors, customers, agencies and Indigenous communities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Location

Based out of Timmins, Chapleau or Kapuskasing, you will undertake field and office work to support silviculture operations, forest management planning, forest certification, and annual program delivery. You will perform monitoring of silviculture projects and assess contractor performance which may involve some travel between the communities. Accommodations and work truck will be provided.

Requirements
  • Education: Enrolled or graduated from College/University program in Forestry or related field.

Salary Range

$28 - $30 per hour.

Basé à Timmins, Chapleau ou Kapuskasing, vous serez chargé de collecter des informations pour soutenir les opérations sylvicoles, la planification de la gestion forestière, la certification forestière et la mise en œuvre du programme annuel. Vous assurerez le suivi des projets sylvicoles et évaluerez les performances des entrepreneurs, ce qui pourra nécessiter certains déplacements entre les communautés. Le logement et un véhicule de service seront fournis.

Responsabilités
  • Promouvoir et fournir un lieu de travail sûr, rechercher des améliorations, soutenir le programme de santé et de sécurité.
  • Se conformer aux règlements, politiques et procédures de l'entreprise.
  • Superviser les entrepreneurs chargés de la plantation d'arbres et effectuer des contrôles de qualité.
  • Soutenir l'entretien aérien, la préparation des sites, la croissance libre et d'autres programmes sylvicoles, selon les besoins.
  • Apporter son soutien à la mise en œuvre réussie des plans de gestion forestière et documenter les progrès réalisés dans ce domaine.
  • Soutenir l'équipe chargée des opérations forestières en effectuant des enquêtes et des inspections.
  • Développer et maintenir de bonnes relations entre les entrepreneurs, les clients, les organismes externes, les communautés autochtones, les autres utilisateurs de la forêt et la direction.
  • Autres tâches assignées.
Exigences
  • Formation : Inscrit ou diplômé d'un programme collégial ou universitaire en foresterie ou dans un domaine connexe.
  • Expérience : 1 à 3 ans d'expérience dans le domaine constituent un atout.
  • Conduite : permis de conduire valide de classe G ou G2.
Remarque :

la période de travail s'étendra de mai à août 2027. (Possibilité de mars à octobre 2027).

Rémunération :

entre 28$ - 30$ de l’heure
