Job summary

Canfor in Prince George, BC, is hiring Forestry Field Assistants for 4- or 8-month term positions across BC and Alberta, with opportunities for full-time progression. Roles span Field Operations, Silviculture and Planning, requiring physical work and a safety-first mindset.

Applicants should be enrolled in a forestry or natural resources program or have forestry experience, with strong communication, a teamwork attitude, and a valid Class 5 license.

Qualifications

  • Current or past enrollment in a forestry or natural resources management program, and/or forestry work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork in a team environment.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Timber stratification and preliminary feature identification using Lidar data and imagery.
  • Road and cutblock layout.
  • Site level plans and ecosystem data collection.
  • Operational cruising.
  • Field information mapping stream and riparian assessments.
  • Supervision of planting, vegetation management, and site preparation activities to ensure compliance with Canfor's safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Completion of post-harvest prescriptions and regeneration surveys.
  • Updating key Silviculture databases following completion of activities.
  • Conducting field and office activities which relate to Planning.
  • Conducting field surveys and assessments to support block design and reconnaissance efforts.
  • Assist with developing and implementing comprehensive forest management plans in compliance with regulatory requirements and sustainable forestry practices.

Every year, Canfor hires numerous Forestry Field Assistants to join us in term positions, offering contracts of 4 or 8 months. These roles are based within our Woodlands locations in both BC and Alberta, spanning Prince George, Whitecourt and Grande Prairie. The life of a member on our Field Operations team includes:

For these roles, you'll come equipped with:

  • Current or past enrollment in a forestry or natural resources management program, and/or forestry work experience
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork in a team environment
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License

The salary range for this position is: $48,500 - $69,500

Please Note: The range provided is for base salary only. In addition to base salary, the position is eligible to paid leave and Canfor's health & well-being programs.
