Job summary

Town of Newmarket is seeking a Seasonal Facility Worker to join the Facility Operations team. Under supervision, you will assist with cleaning, housekeeping, and maintenance of town facilities, including arenas, pools, recreation centres, and related spaces, in accordance with policies and safety regulations.

This eight-month contract runs September 2026 through May 2027. Candidates should have the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, plus relevant maintenance experience and required certifications

Qualifications

• Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma and relevant facility maintenance experience.
• CPO certification from a recognized organization.
• Basic Arena Refrigeration certification.
• Standard First Aid and CPR-C, WHMIS, propane handling, confined space, fall arrest, forklift training.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations and applicable codes.
• Ability to operate maintenance equipment including lawn mowers, genie lift and ice resurfacing gear.
• MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with shift flexibility.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Class G driver’s license and a clean record.
• Police Vulnerable Sector Check required.

Responsibilities

Job Description

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Facility Operations, the Seasonal Facility Worker is part of a front-line team responsible for cleaning, housekeeping, operation and maintenance activities related to town facilities including arenas, swimming pools, recreation centres, interior spaces and external amenities, and offices in accordance with policies, procedures, legislative requirements and industry best practices.

8 MONTH CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY - SEPTEMBER 2026 - MAY 2027

Job Requirements

• Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma and formal experience and knowledge in facility, arena and/or pool maintenance and operation or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification from a recognized professional organization or college.
• Basic Arena Refrigeration certification from a recognized professional organization.
• Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, WHMIS, propane handling course, confined space, fall arrest, and forklift training required.
• Practical working knowledge of refrigeration plant and facility operations, pools, and associated equipment and maintenance procedures, applicable health and safety regulations (i.e. fire extinguisher, propane handling, Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, Health Protection Act. Amusement Devices (pool slide and inspection), Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Electrical Safety Authority, Building Code, and confined space regulations).
• Practical knowledge and ability to operate maintenance equipment including lawn mowers, genie lift and ice resurfacing equipment.
• Experience with MS Office, (Word, Excel and Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Flexibility/availability for shift work including availability to work and/or respond to after-hours emergencies and special events as required.
• Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills and ability to deal courteously and effectively with user groups, general public and program participants.
• Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing.
• A satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required due to the nature of the contacts of this position.
