Farming Smarter seeks a Summer Communications Intern for 2027 to gain hands-on experience in agricultural communications, marketing, and events. You will craft content, support digital channels, and promote research outcomes to producers and industry stakeholders.

You'll develop skills in storytelling, social media, graphics, photography, videography, and audience engagement while working alongside researchers and farmers throughout Western Canada.

Qualifications

  • Enrolment in, or completion of, a post-secondary program in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Multimedia, Agriculture Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Interest in storytelling, audience engagement, and digital media.

Responsibilities

  • Content Creation & Storytelling: write articles, newsletters, and website content; create engaging social media posts.
  • Digital Communications: assist with website updates; monitor social channels and report on performance.
  • Event Promotion & Support: help promote field schools, tours, workshops, and webinars; assist with materials and coordination.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: communicate with farmers, partners, sponsors, and government stakeholders; maintain contact databases.

Term: April26 – August 27, 2027 (adjustable based on school schedules)


Hours: Monday– Friday, 40 hours/week (some overtime may be required)


Compensation: $19–$23per hour

FarmingSmarter is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and motivated student to join ourteam as a Summer Communications Intern for the summer of 2027. This is an excitingopportunity to gain hands-on experience in agricultural communications,marketing, event promotion, content creation, and stakeholder engagement whileworking alongside researchers, agronomists, industry leaders, and farmers.


Asa member of our team, you will help tell the story of agricultural innovationby creating engaging content, supporting events, managing digitalcommunications, and promoting research outcomes to producers and industrystakeholders. You will develop valuable skills in communications strategy,social media engagement, graphic design, photography, videography, writing,event coordination, and public engagement.


Duties & Responsibilities:


ContentCreation & Storytelling


  • Write andedit compelling articles, blog posts, newsletters, event promotions, andwebsite content.

  • Developengaging social media content for multiple platforms.

  • Supportthe creation of videos, graphics, photography, and other digital contentshowcasing Farming Smarter’s research and events.

  • Conduct interviews with staff, researchers, industry partners, and producers to help share stories and results.

DigitalCommunications


  • Assistwith website updates and content management.

  • Monitorsocial media channels and support audience engagement.

  • Helptrack communications metrics and prepare reports on campaign performance.

  • Maintain brand consistency across all communicationsmaterials.

Event Promotion& Support


  • Assist inpromoting field schools, tours, workshops, webinars, and other agriculturalevents.

  • Helpprepare event materials, signage, presentations, and participantcommunications.

  • Attendevents to provide photography, videography, social media coverage, and participantsupport.

  • Work with staff to ensure successful event execution andfollow up communications.

StakeholderEngagement


  • Supportcommunications with farmers, industry partners, sponsors, members, andgovernment stakeholders.

  • Helpmaintain media and stakeholder contact databases.

  • Assist with special projects and communicationsinitiatives as required.

  • Excellentattention to detail and proofreading abilities.

  • Creativethinker with an interest in storytelling and audience engagement.

  • Comfortablelearning new technologies and communication platforms.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Requirements:


  • Enrolmentin, or completion of, a post-secondary program in Communications, Marketing,Public Relations, Journalism, Multimedia, Agriculture Communications, or arelated field.

  • ValidClass 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and access to reliabletransportation.

  • Ability to attend occasional events outside regularoffice hours.

Assets:


  • Experiencecreating content for social media platforms.

  • Proficiencywith Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools.

  • Photographyand videography experience.

  • Experiencewith analytics, email marketing, or digital advertising platforms.

  • Familiaritywith agriculture or interest in the agriculture industry.
