Job summary

Sureway Construction Group Ltd. is a major Alberta heavy construction contractor with over 50 years of experience, involved in civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction.

We are seeking a Scraper/Buggy Operator in Edmonton for a full-time seasonal role, with 10+ hour days and overtime after 8 hours. Applicants must have a reliable vehicle and CSA boots; minimum 1 year of scraper experience and pass pre-employment orientation.

Responsibilities

• Operate scraper controls to regulate blade height and bowl for site grading.
• Scraper passes to raise/lower terrain according to grade stakes.
• Ensure scraper and buggies run at appropriate gear and speed.
• Use cushion hitch correctly during scraper operation.
• Read grades and interpret roadway plans/drawings.
• Promote and follow the company safety program on site.
• Acknowledges that responsibilities may vary by project.

Scraper/ Buggy Operator

• Job Type Full Time, Seasonal
• Schedule 10+ hours per day, 6 & 1, OT after 8hr/day or 44hr/week

• Essential Hard-working, reliable, flexible with schedule, ability to work in physically demanding conditions

Requirements

• Personal Reliable Vehicle
• CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support
• Minimum 1 year operating a scraper (push-pull & auger)

Pre-employment

• Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test)
• Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation

Scraper Operators Responsibilities

• Minimum One (1) year experience operating a Scraper (Push-pull & Auger)
• Operate scraper controls to regulate the height of the blade and bowl to shape and contour the site.
• Operate the Scraper in successive passes over construction surface to raise or lower terrain to specified grade, following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
• Ensure scraper/ buggies are in proper gear, and is not moving too fast for working conditions.
• Ensures proper use of the cushion hitch while operating the scraper.
• Demonstrate an understanding of grades and interpret roadway plans and drawings.
• Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
