RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre located in Montreal, Quebec. It serves as the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The institute receives support from the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary

The Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) is one of thirteen virtual institutes of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), based at RI-MUHC in Montreal. It supports strategic research activities across Canada related to heart, lung, brain (stroke), blood, blood vessels, critical care, and sleep, with a focus on Indigenous health research and commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). The institute promotes personal growth and professional development.

The incumbent, reporting to the Scientific Director and the Associate Director, will work with the Canadian circulatory and respiratory health research community and stakeholders to identify research priorities, develop funding opportunities, build partnerships, and translate research into practice. This role is vital in advancing the institute’s mission, ensuring excellence, and enhancing its reputation nationally and internationally.

General Duties

Project Planning and Management – 50%

  • Plans, designs, drafts, and reviews funding opportunities aligned with ICRH’s priorities.
  • Collaborates with team members in planning, implementing, and evaluating projects and activities, including funding opportunities, workshops, peer review, partnerships, and consultations.
  • Leads assigned projects, manages timelines, and ensures deliverables are met within scope and deadlines.

Science Strategy - 30%

  • Works with leadership and advisory boards to identify research needs, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Provides scientific expertise, staying current with developments to inform ICRH priorities and activities.
  • Reviews scientific literature and summarizes relevant findings for strategic planning.
  • Participates in federal and jurisdictional working groups to provide expertise.
  • Analyzes the impact of funded research and initiatives.
  • Leads knowledge mobilization activities to enhance team science and translate research into impact.

Liaison, Communication, and Partnerships – 20%

  • Acts as a spokesperson for the Institute with communities, partners, and media.
  • Develops and maintains stakeholder partnerships at local, national, and international levels.
  • Prepares communication materials, reports, and presentations.
  • Represents ICRH at meetings and conferences.
