RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre located in Montreal, Quebec. It serves as the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The institute is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary

The Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) is one of the thirteen virtual institutes of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), based at RI-MUHC in Montreal. It supports strategic research activities across Canada, focusing on causes, mechanisms, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems, and palliation for conditions related to the heart, lung, brain (stroke), blood, blood vessels, critical care, and sleep. ICRH emphasizes strengthening Indigenous health research and values equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

The incumbent reports to the Scientific Director and Associate Director, working with the Canadian circulatory and respiratory health research community and stakeholders to identify research priorities, develop funding opportunities, build partnerships, and translate research into practice. The role is vital in advancing the Institute’s mission, mandate, and values, ensuring excellence and enhancing its reputation nationally and internationally.

General Duties

Project Planning and Management – 50%

  • Plans, designs, drafts, adapts, and reviews funding opportunities aligned with ICRH’s mandate and priorities.
  • Collaborates with ICRH team members, supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects, programs, and activities, including special projects.
  • Leads assigned projects, overseeing timelines and deliverables to ensure timely and within-scope completion.

Science Strategy - 30%

  • Works with leadership and advisory boards to identify research priorities, gaps, and challenges within the Canadian research ecosystem.
  • Provides scientific expertise, staying current with scientific developments to incorporate innovative findings into ICRH activities.
  • Reviews scientific publications and documents for relevance, synthesizes information for strategic decisions, and participates in relevant working groups.
  • Conducts impact analysis of funded research and leads knowledge mobilization activities to enhance team science and research translation.

Liaison, Communication, and Partnerships – 20%

  • Acts as a spokesperson for the Institute with communities, the public, partners, and media.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Prepares communication materials, including reports, briefing notes, and presentations, and represents the Institute at meetings and conferences.
