Job description

Position: School Social Worker

Location: HDSB Schools [Burlington, Halton Hills (Acton & Georgetown), Oakville, Milton]

Term: September 2, 2025 to June 26, 2026

Pay Rate: $80,113.00 - $106,216.00 per year as per the collective agreement

Salary step would be determined based on previous experience

Work Schedule: 10 Months/year (September - June); 35 hours per week

The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is one of the fastest growing school districts in Canada. We are seeking a Social Worker to join our clinical services team.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will work as part of the Social Work team at the Halton District School Board. Areas of responsibility may include:

School Communities

The Safe and Inclusive Schools Team including The H.O.P.E.S team (for students who have been suspended for 6 or more days or expelled)

The Welcome Centre (for newcomers, refugees, and international students)

HDSB Social Workers are capable of providing short-term individual and/or group counselling as well as support to parents and families. They provide comprehensive support and case management and are knowledgeable of local and regional community resources. HDSB Social Workers have knowledge related to bullying prevention and intervention, including training in restorative practices and conflict resolution strategies.

Responsibilities Will Include

Offer problem-solving and consultation services around student needs to develop supportive strategies to enhance student success

Provide support and service rooted in cultural responsiveness, anti-racism, and anti-oppressive practices

Help students, families and schools in relation to mental health, emotional, social and behavioural concerns

Support students who are suspended or expelled and their families

Provide anger management, social skills, conflict resolution, life skills, and work skills

Provide social work services to newcomers, refugees and international students and their families during students' transition to school

Support schools and communities around issues of bullying prevention/intervention and other issues related to school safety including Violence Threat Risk Assessment and Restorative Practices

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Social Work

Member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Access to reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a school board setting

Experience working with students, parents, educators and other school-based staff, police and community partners, including students at risk

Experience supporting individuals from a variety of lived experiences (socio-economic, cultural, etc.,)

Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving group

Broad understanding of and an inclusive approach to relationship building with diverse stakeholders in the community and in schools

Experience with crisis management support

Appointments Are Conditional Upon

Provision of an original copy of a criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening dated within 6 months

Agreement to comply with the Board’s policies, procedures and code of conduct
