Job summary

Abbotsford School District is seeking a School Psychologist to work within the Learning Support Services Department and collaborate with school personnel. The role includes independent and team-based work, providing psychoeducational assessments, consultative planning, and professional development for staff.

The successful candidate will support designation processes and work within BC education guidelines, with potential for paid internship pathways if qualified candidates are unavailable.

Qualifications

Job Summary & Responsibilities

The School Psychologist position includes opportunities to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment in the context of the Learning Support Services Department and with school personnel. The successful candidate will also:

• Provide ongoing collaborative consultation and planning for students and classrooms through school-based team meetings and care team meetings
• Provide individualized psychoeducational assessments (based on student need) for students referred through the school-based team.
• Provide professional learning opportunities for educators and support staff
• Assist with the Ministry of Education processes for designation and adjudication

Note: Should no qualified candidates be available, the District will review applications for paid, supervised internships that would meet the 1,800-hour internship requirement.

Education & Experience

• Master’s Degree in School Psychology, Educational Psychology or equivalent
• Possess or eligible for membership in the BC Association of School Psychologists and/or the College of Psychologists BC
• Training and supervision in the assessment of Learning Disabilities
• Teaching certification with B.C. Teacher Regulation Branch is considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated understanding of B.C. Ministry of Education designation categories and guidelines
• Demonstrated knowledge of elementary, middle, and secondary context preferred
• Demonstrated effective organizational skills and ability to complete multiple assessment reports by pre-determined deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work with school-based and integrated teams in a consulting role
• Skilled in written and oral interpersonal communications
• Knowledge of Competency Based IEPs is an asset
