Job summary

Upper Canada District School Board is seeking a Custodian to support school facilities. The role involves cleaning, routine maintenance, and assisting with minor repairs under supervision of the Facilities Operations Manager and Lead Custodian.

The candidate should have a secondary school diploma and cleaning experience, with a valid driver’s license. The position operates under the CUPE collective agreement and requires teamwork across a network of worksites.

Qualifications

• A secondary school diploma with a minimum of six months cleaning and general maintenance experience in a school facility is required.
• Demonstrated experience in small equipment repair and maintenance is an asset.
• The successful candidate may be required to obtain specific courses and/or certifications relevant to his or her worksite(s) such as water treatment certificate, lockout / tag out, fall arrest, WHMIS, etc.
• Enrolment in or successful completion of BES courses is an asset.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs custodial duties such as cleaning, disinfecting washrooms, vacuuming and mopping floors.
• Strips, waxes and maintains floors as required.
• Replenishes classroom and washroom supplies.
• Washes windows, ceilings, walls and light fixtures.
• Opens/closes spaces and moves furniture when needed.
• Performs preventative building maintenance and minor repairs.
• Works in other buildings as needed.
