Job summary

The Strait Regional Centre for Education is inviting applications for a Janitor at the E Antigonish Educ Centre-Acade worksite. The position schedules 7 hours per day and supports the public school program across the SRCE region.

Responsibilities include cleaning, supply management, reporting incidents, and maintaining building security. Equity and inclusion are emphasized in the candidate outreach.

Qualifications

• Experience and training in commercial cleaning methods and grounds keeping.
• Current WHMIS certification.
• Current First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
• Willingness to work as part of the school support team.
• Ability to arm and disarm the building security system in an unsupervised setting.

Responsibilities

• Clean, on a daily basis, all assigned areas of the school in accordance with established practices and standards.
• Obtain and maintain sufficient supplies on hand to carry out duties and responsibilities.
• Report breakdowns, accidents, damage or vandalism to the appropriate supervisor.
• Secure all doors and windows when the building is vacated and activate security system if last to leave.
• Perform floor care duties (stripping, sealing, waxing, burnishing).
• Perform snow and ice control duties as needed.
