Job summary

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) invites applications for the Richmond-area janitor position. Worksite: Richmond Education Centre Acad / Felix Marchand Education Centr / East Richmond. Schedule: 6 hours/day.

Dates: 09/14/2026 to 07/15/2027. Responsibilities include daily cleaning, supply management, reporting issues, securing the building, floor care, snow/ice control, and general maintenance.

Qualifications

• Experience and training in commercial cleaning methods and procedures, general repair and grounds keeping.
• Ability to perform all the duties of this position.
• Current WHMIS certification.
• Current First Aid Certification.
• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
• Willingness to work as part of the school support team.
• Ability to arm and disarm the building security system in an unsupervised setting.

Responsibilities

• Clean on a daily basis all assigned areas of the school in accordance with established practices and standards.
• Obtain and maintain sufficient supplies on hand to carry out duties and responsibilities.
• Report any breakdowns, accidents, damage or vandalism to the appropriate supervisor.
• Secure all doors and windows whenever the building is vacated and activate security system if last person to vacate building.
• Perform floor care duties, such as stripping, sealing, waxing, burnishing, etc.
• Perform snow and ice control duties as needed.
• Pick up litter and trash from yards, driveways, parking lots and walkways on an ongoing basis with general clean-ups.
• Perform duties in compliance with school, Operations Department, SRCE policies and procedures including occupational health, safety, attendance, work routines, WHMIS, and evacuation plans and the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia.
• Arm and disarm the building security system.
• Other related duties as assigned.
