Job summary

Halifax Regional Centre for Education invites applications for the Cafeteria Worker role within the school lunch program. You will prepare and serve food, support hygiene and safety standards, and interact with students in a respectful, inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Lead Cafeteria Worker, you will handle daily logs, order supplies, and help with recycling and waste management while promoting healthy eating and local foods in a fast-paced school setting.

Qualifications

• Basic Food Safety Training required. Will be provided as part of training.
• Food service experience and/or training preferred.
• Understanding of food allergies and related conditions.
• Physical capability for heavy lifting up to 50 lb, standing and walking all day.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse student backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Complete daily logs (temperature, cleaning, food amounts).
• Place food orders with vendors when requested.
• Interact positively with students at the lunch line.
• Ensure food safety standards are followed at all times.
• Prepare and serve food.
• Perform kitchen duties (washing, cleaning, restocking).
• Serve students quickly, efficiently, and politely.
• Promote positive relationships within the school environment.
• Adhere to School Food and Nutrition Policy and NS Public Schools standards.
• Support school recycling program.
• Other duties as required.
• Delivery positions: deliver orders to neighboring schools as needed.
