Job summary

Public Schools Branch in Charlottetown, PEI, is seeking a reliable School Bus Driver to operate the daily bus route, pick up and drop off students, and ensure the vehicle is clean and in good working order. You will conduct pre- and post-trip inspections, maintain student safety and behavior, and interact courteously with students, parents, and school staff while following all regulations.

Requires Grade 12, valid driver’s license with 2A, clear drivers abstract, First Aid/CPR, and eligibility

Qualifications

  • Must have Grade 12 diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license with at least five years of experience.
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract for the last five years.
  • First Aid and CPR training required.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the school bus on a regular daily schedule.

Job description

The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating the school bus on a regular daily schedule. They must ensure that the school bus is clean and in good operating condition at all times (conducing post and pre-trip inspections), picking up and dropping off students as per the schedule, maintaining order and security on the bus and obey all laws, regulations, and rules of conduct. The School Bus Driver must also deal with public, school officials and children in a courteous and respectful manner. As a School Bus Driver you will have a chance to make a difference in a child’s life, and maybe your own as well.

What you will bring:

  • Grade 12 high school diploma or GED;
  • Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered;
  • A full, valid driver’s license for at least five (5) years;
  • A valid Class 2A driver’s license and successful completionof an approved School Bus Driver Training Program (there are training opportunities to assist in obtaining this);
  • A satisfactory Driver’s Abstract for the last five years;
  • Successful completion of First Aid Training and CPR Training is required (this is included in the course);
  • Participate in on the job training with the PSB Coaches;
  • Attendance at the PSB Student Management Course is required;
  • Proof of medical fitness, including vision on forms approved by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Highway Safety Division;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to read instructions and write clearly;
  • Clear communication skills;
  • Eligibility to work in Canada;
  • Applicants must submit a Criminal Abstract and have no past or present criminal record which would be detrimental in working in an environment with children, youth and other adults.

What you may bring:

  • Experience dealing with children/youth is an asset;
  • Experience driving large vehicles and having a class 1,2 or 3 with Air Brake Endorsement is anasset.
