Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of safe driving experience.
  • Completion of secondary school diploma preferred.
  • Copy of Driver’s Abstract required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to employment.
  • First Aid certification required.
  • Ontario Class B driver's license; training offered if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Safely deliver students to and from homes and schools on schedule.
  • Ensure student safety when boarding, exiting, and crossing streets.
  • Enforce bus safety rules and standards.
  • Follow traffic regulations and operate vehicles safely and courteously.
  • Resolve conflicts in a positive, respectful manner.
  • Complete vehicle inspections before trips.
  • Clean vehicle after trips and manage lost-and-found items.
  • Follow Fort William First Nation policies and government regulations.
  • Read and interpret maps as required.
  • Report bus malfunctions or needed repairs to the Education Department.
  • Complete required trip and mileage logs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Title:

School Bus Driver(s)

Position Description:

The School Bus Driver, under the direction of the Education Manager, will primarily be responsible for transporting students of various ages to and from their homes and their respective schools in an effective and safe manner. This individual will be responsible for following established routes and ensuring the established schedule is followed so passengers arrive at their destination on-time. The School Bus Driver will maintain the health and safety of the students while transporting, loading and unloading the students, and ensure that all policies and procedures are followed while operating the vehicle.

Permanent Part-Time- 5 hours per school day- 10 Month (seasonal) Position

Major Responsibilities:
  • Safely deliver students to and from their homes and schools, following the assigned time schedule
  • Ensure student’s safety when boarding and exiting the bus and crossing the street while bus is stopped
  • Adhere to and enforce bus safety rules and standards
  • Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
  • Resolve any conflicts in a positive, respectful and proactive manner
  • Complete vehicle inspections prior to departing for any trip
  • Complete vehicle cleanliness inspections post trip, removing any garbage. Place found items in lost and found bin or remove to designated location
  • Adhere to Fort William First Nation policies and procedures and all government regulations at all times
  • Read and interpret maps, where and when required
  • Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs to the Education Department
  • Complete all necessary paperwork as required, such as, trip and mileage logs
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/ Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be able to work on short notice
  • Completion of secondary school diploma is preferred
  • A minimum of one year of safe driving experience is required
  • Copy of Driver’s Abstract required
  • Vulnerable Reference Check required prior to commencing employment
  • Excellent driving skills and habits
  • Ability to remain attentive when faced with distractions
  • First Aid required
  • Bus drivers require a Class “B” license in Ontario (copy to be provided with application)- FWFN is willing to train qualified applicants for class “B” license.
Wage:

$34.60/hour plus 4% vacation pay
