Job summary

Ottawa Catholic School Board is seeking an Addictions Counsellor - Term to deliver clinical assessment, harm-reduction and recovery-focused counseling to students in grades 7 through 12. The role collaborates with school administration, families, and community partners to support well-being and academic success.

Reporting to the Social Work Lead, this position requires a Master’s degree in Social Work or related field and at least 5 years of addictions/mental health experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work or counselling/addiction related field.
• Membership in the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in addictions/mental health and with families, youth and children
• Strong understanding of substance use disorders and treatment options
• Knowledge of community-based services in addiction and mental health

Responsibilities

• Administer screening questionnaires and conduct substance abuse and social-emotional assessments.
• Develop tailored treatment plans with students and families for recovery.
• Identify concurrent medical/psychiatric conditions and refer to specialists.
• Provide individual and group counseling focused on harm reduction and school success.
• Support students with crises related to addiction and mental health and ensure safety.
• Monitor and update recovery plans as needs evolve.
• Collaborate with school teams and parents on prevention initiatives.
• Deliver school-wide prevention programs and psychoeducation sessions.
