Job summary

Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) Lindsay is seeking a School Age Educator for a contract role with a potential path to permanent. This position runs 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a September 14, 2026 start date, and may require shifts from 6 am to 6 pm as program needs.

You will plan and lead play- and interest-based activities to support development, supervise children, document learning progress, and collaborate with families.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years’ experience with children and youth.
• Knowledge of the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
• Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid, and CPR Level C, immunization records.
• Must be at least 18 years old at start of employment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead interest-based and play-based activities reflecting children’s interests to promote development.
• Maintain active supervision of children during play.
• Document learning progress through observation, reflection, and questions.
• Create and maintain a safe health and safety environment for children.
• Assist with diapering, dressing, and eating habits as needed.
• Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in learning.

Role and Accountabilities:

• Plan and lead interest-based and play-based activities that reflect children’s unique interests to promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
• Maintain active supervision with children while still being engaged in play.
• Document children’s learning progress through observation, reflection, and research questions.
• Create and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, and well-being of children.
• Assist the children with diapering, dressing, and eating habits.
• Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in the learning process.
• Collaborate with coworkers, families, and community partners to create a supportive environment.
• Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and staff training opportunities.
• Assist in housekeeping duties within the program.
• Follow CELC, CCEYA, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.
• Hours will be based on program needs and funding. Shift start and end times will fluctuate within the team and will fall within the program hours of 6 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday.
• This program supports infant, toddler, and preschool-aged children.

Skills and Qualifications:

Required:

• 1-3 years’ experience working with children and youth.
• Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
• Valid certifications, including a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid, and CPR Level C, and updated immunization records.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by the beginning of employment.

Preferred:

• Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators OR is currently pursuing or is interested in pursuing their ECE diploma.
• OR has an alternative childcare designation that is eligible for Director's Approval (i.e., Child and Youth, Recreation and Leisure, and Ontario Certified Teachers - Primary and Junior) Post-Secondary education in a related field.
• Experience working in a play-based, emergent-curriculum childcare program.
