Job summary

Downie Timber Ltd. & Selkirk Cedar is seeking a Saw Filer to join the maintenance team in Revelstoke, BC. Reporting to the Head Filer, you will perform saw filing tasks with safe, quality workmanship and support maintenance programs.

Responsibilities include sharpening and maintaining various saws, ensuring tools are ready, and adhering to WorkSafeBC safety standards. The role requires independent work and teamwork, flexibility in shifts, and reliable transportation.

Qualifications

• Preferred candidates will be a 2nd or 3rd year Benchman.
• Excellent safety and attendance record and strong work ethic.
• Knowledge and experience in sawmill and planer operations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication skills.
• Knowledge of Babbitted guides IMF guide dressers.
• Physical demands require lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Must be flexible in scheduling with ability to work various shifts.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

Responsibilities

• Sharpen, solder/weld tips, tension, and dispose of saws.
• Cast babbitt for saw guides, maintain certain saw unit functions, and change out dull or damaged saws when required.
• Knowledge of functionality, maintenance, and alignment with circular cut off saws and various saw types.
• Maintain mill saws per safety standards and ensure availability of sharp saws.
• Understand preventative maintenance processes for saw shop and mill machinery.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Correct use of PPE and report equipment malfunctions.
• Identify and report safety hazards to management.
• Follow Safe Work Procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
