Reporting to the Sanitation Manager, the Sanitation Team Lead will assist in overseeing the daily tasks and duties of the sanitation team. S/he will help ensure the facility and equipment are cleaned according to sanitation processes, programs, and documentation, while ensuring compliance with regulatory, food safety, and environmental laws. The role includes implementing safety, sanitation, and continuous improvement programs to maintain the facility at BRC level of cleanliness.
Responsibilities
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Work safely at all times, complying with all safety policies and procedures.
- Perform tasks as instructed by the supervisor, following all safety guidelines.
- Train team members on cleaning procedures for food safety and personnel safety.
- Assist the Sanitation Supervisor in ensuring employee safety practices are followed, including lockout/tagout, chemical handling, proper lifting techniques, and PPE use.
- Report food safety issues to the Sanitation Supervisor.
- Oversee the quality of work performed by the sanitation team members.
- Ensure tasks outlined in the Master Sanitation schedule are completed efficiently.
- Create and maintain an up-to-date POKA guide for sanitation operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide leadership in the absence of the Sanitation Supervisor, ensuring team tasks are completed.
- Report food safety issues to the Quality or Plant Manager.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections to ensure cleanliness before start-up.
- Manage staff hours and submit reports for payroll.
- Willing to undertake additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Preferably, one year of experience in the food industry.
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills with peers and supervisors.
- Ability to meet physical requirements and demonstrate manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of chemicals used in food plant cleaning and sanitation, along with relevant practices and procedures.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Essential Functions
- Ability to lift 35 lbs from floor to waist and from waist to shoulder, 33% of the time.
- Ability to push/pull with a maximum force of 114 lbs.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
