Job summary

ALS is seeking a Sample Preparation Technician (P3) for our Geochemistry location. You will independently prepare client samples for analysis, perform ringing, sieving, crushing and logging, while maintaining safe, accurate lab practices.

You will work in a team-focused environment, supporting senior staff, training new teammates, and adhering to ALS safety policies to ensure high-quality results.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months work experience in a commercial minerals laboratory or minerals sample preparation.
  • Forklift licence/certification or forklift experience is an asset.
  • Basic English communication skills (written and verbal).

Responsibilities

  • Ringing, sieving (including International Soils), crushing and splitting.
  • Loading and unloading drying ovens.
  • Maintain own production logs.
  • General cleaning duties for basic lab cleanliness.
  • Assists with layout duties/tasks.
  • Handling compositing, screen metallics, special handling requests, etc.
  • Inspecting equipment and inform senior employee if adjustment is required.
  • Handles basic internal problem solving.
  • May assist in training / mentoring new employees on basic prep procedures.
  • Dealing with NORM sample preparations.
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Sample Preparation Technician (P3)

Location: ALS Geochemistry

Reports to: Sample Preparation Supervisor

General Accountability:
Within the Sample Preparation Department, the Sample Preparation Technician 3 will independently work with client samples and prepare them for analysis in our labs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Ringing, sieving (including International Soils), crushing and splitting;
  • Loading and unloading drying ovens;
  • Maintain own production logs;
  • General cleaning duties for basic lab cleanliness;
  • Assists with layout duties/tasks;

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Good hand-eye coordination;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Basic alpha/numeric comprehension;
  • Basic English communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Basic computer skills required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 months (180 days) work experience in a commercial minerals laboratory or minerals sample preparation required;
  • Forklift licence/certification, or experience driving a forklift an asset.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time;
  • Ability to work in a hot and dusty environment;
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs (occasionally lifting may exceed 50lbs and assistance is mandatory from either another employee or the lift assist equipment);
  • Be cleanly-shaven in order to wear protective equipment.
