Salary: $60,000–$80,000 CAD annually, commensurate with experience (open to negotiation)
Company: Zodiac Power House / Zodiac Light Waves — total IT solutions for retirement homes, nursing homes, and medical clinics across Canada
About the Role
Zodiac provides total IT solutions to retirement homes, nursing homes, and medical clinics across Canada — and the people behind that work are what make it possible. We're looking for a Sales Engineer who can own the technical side of a deal from tender to delivery: reading and scoping tenders, confirming requirements with Sales, designing the solution, building the Bill of Materials, and staying the go-to technical expert once the project is underway.
This is a highly cross-functional role. You'll sit at the intersection of Sales, Design, and Project Delivery — translating what a client needs into a system that's technically sound, accurately priced, and buildable on schedule. In healthcare and senior living environments specifically, that means understanding not just networking and wireless, but how those systems support critical infrastructure like nurse call, access control, and CCTV.
What You'll Do
Tender & Requirements Review
- Read and assess incoming tenders for technical scope, requirements, and feasibility
- Flag ambiguous, missing, or conflicting requirements before they become design problems
- Work directly with Sales to confirm and clarify customer needs before design starts, including site-specific constraints (building type, existing infrastructure, coverage challenges)
System Design
- Build system designs using Ubiquiti Design, Iris, and Ekahau for wireless site surveys and coverage planning
- Conduct or review wireless site surveys to ensure coverage and capacity meet the facility's actual usage patterns (staff devices, nurse call, patient/resident Wi-Fi, IoT)
- Design with an eye toward scalability and future facility expansion, not just day-one requirements
Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Develop and validate the Bill of Materials using Firecount and related tools, ensuring accurate counts and pricing
- Own the BOM from initial scoping through final count — catching errors or omissions before they hit procurement
- Cross-check BOM against design drawings and site survey data to confirm consistency
Quote & SOW Review
- Review final quotes and Statements of Work (SOW) with the Design team to confirm technical and commercial alignment
- Ensure SOWs clearly reflect what was actually designed and priced, minimizing scope disputes during execution
Project Support & Technical Ownership
- Support project teams with design questions during execution, including troubleshooting when as-built conditions differ from the original design
- Serve as the subject matter expert for technical and design questions across the company — Sales, Project Management, and field teams will come to you when something needs a technical answer
Tools You'll Use
Ubiquiti Design, Iris, Ekahau, Firecount, Zoho CRM, Google Sheets, Google Mail, and AI tools (Claude and similar) to speed up design review, BOM counting, and SOW drafting.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in sales engineering, pre-sales, or technical design
- Hands-on experience with network and wireless design tools
- Comfortable owning a BOM from scoping through final count — this isn't a "hand it off and hope" role
- Strong communicator who can bridge Sales, Design, and Project teams, including translating technical detail for non-technical stakeholders
- Experience in healthcare, senior living, or other regulated/critical-infrastructure environments is an asset
- Comfortable working with AI-assisted tools to speed up repetitive design and documentation work
