Job summary

Lake Shore Gold, a Pan American Silver subsidiary, seeks a Safety & Training Manager for its Timmins Operations in Timmins, ON. Role is full-time with a 4-on/3-off 10‑hour shift. Relocation to the Timmins area is required; not a camp position.

The manager will promote safety culture, lead program implementation, and ensure training records and regulatory compliance across sites, reporting to the Director of Operations.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years mining experience, preferably underground.
  • 10+ years in industrial safety and training management.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and sites.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a positive safety culture across the site.
  • Lead implementation and continuous improvement of site safety and training programs.
  • Deliver training on mine site procedures and update documentation.
  • Ensure records are accurate and compliant with standards.
  • Develop and manage the safety and training budget.
  • Monitor training compliance for employees and contractors.
  • Prepare regular safety reports to Corporate and management.

About the Organization

Lake Shore Gold, a subsidiary of Pan American Silver, is located in Timmins, Ontario. The Timmins West mine is located approximately 18 kilometers west of Timmins, Ontario, one of the world’s most prolific gold camps. Mineralization is associated with the Porcupine-Destor fault system within the Abitibi greenstone belt. The Timmins West mine is comprised of the Timmins deposit, the Thunder Creek deposit, and the 144 Gap deposit. All three deposits are interconnected by underground drifts.

We are looking to hire a Safety & Training Manager to join our Timmins Operations in Timmins, ON., on afull-time basis. The schedule for this position is 4 on, 3 off, 10hrs/day.

Vacancy Status: This is an existing vacancy. The successful candidate may begin as soon as possible.

Please note that this role requires relocation to the Timmins area and is not a camp-based position.

The role of the Safety & Training Manager is to promote safety culture across all LSG sites. Compliance with regulations and ensuring safety program implementation is paramount.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Safety & Training Manager will have the following responsibilities:

  • Foster and promote a positive safety culture across the site.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of site Safety and Training programs.
  • Deliver and support training related to mine site safe operating procedures, while contributing to procedure reviews, updates, and improvements.
  • Ensure site training programs are effectively structured, documented, and aligned with corporate standards and guidance.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the Safety and Training budget.
  • Oversee the monitoring, tracking, and reporting of training compliance for employees, contractors, and site-specific training requirements.
  • Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance with all applicable record-keeping requirements.
  • Prepare and submit regular training and safety reports to Corporate.
  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing the site’s injury frequency rate.
  • Assist the Health and Safety Department in promoting safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of training programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and training audits to verify worker compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
More About You

While our ideal candidate has the following qualifications, we welcome applicants who may not meet every criterion to apply.

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • 10+ years of related mining experience, preferably in an underground mining environment
  • 10+ years in industrial safety and training management
  • Strong communication, coaching and facilitation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple training requirements, schedules and priorities
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to maintain training records, update databases, and work with common Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred
  • Familiarization with Safety programs such as Critical Risk Management (CRM), Human Organizational Performance (HOP) are strong assets.

Overall, you are a motivated team player who demonstrates compliance with all health and safety regulations.

Lake Shore Gold is located in Timmins, Ontario, a vibrant community of 45,000 residents that is a central hub for Northeastern Ontario. The Bell Creek Complex, located approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Timmins, Ontario, consists of an underground mine and processing facility. Mineralization is associated with the Porcupine-Destor fault system within the Abitibi greenstone belt, with ore mined by narrow vein longhole stoping methods. Ore is then transported to surface via a modern one thousand eighty metre deep shaft capable of forty-eight hundred tonnes per day.
