Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking a Safety Specialist to conduct HSQA audits, risk assessments, and ergonomic evaluations across Ontario sites. You will monitor OHSA compliance, lead root cause analyses, and develop corrective actions with local management. The role requires 3+ years in health and safety and a valid driver’s license.

The position emphasizes safety program development, training delivery, and stakeholder coordination with regulators and clients. Travel will be required.

Qualifications

Job description

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, and discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. We are committed to offering competitive compensation and comply with all applicable pay transparency legislation. Now, if you were to come on board as our Safety Specialist we’d ask you to do the following for us:

  • Conduct Health and Safety and Quality Assurance (HSQA) audits, workplace inspections, risk assessments, and ergonomic evaluations, and monitor Corrective Action Plan development through regular unit visits.
  • Monitor compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and related regulations through field observations and integration of safety protocols into daily operations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ergonomic evaluations at Ontario sites to proactively identify workplace hazards and ensure effective implementation of control measures.
  • Respond to incidents, injuries, illnesses, near-misses, and food safety events onsite and over the phone.
  • Lead root cause analysis for workplace injuries and incidents and support the development of targeted corrective and preventive actions in collaboration with local management.
  • Develop and implement programs by writing procedures, testing them in units, launching them company-wide by email, and supporting implementation during site visits.
  • Deliver classroom, onsite, one-on-one, and webinar training.
  • Participate in Operations and HSQA meetings.
  • Interact with external stakeholders such as regulators, Ministry of Labour inspectors, Public Health Inspectors, clients, safety associations, and other agencies, both in person and via phone or email.
  • Support unit openings and occasional special events with preparatory teleconferences and provide onsite HSQA assistance during the event.
  • Make recommendations for improvements in the area of HSQA and other support functions, H&S and QA standards at a unit or within a district.
  • Report H&S and QA deficiencies to Operations, Senior Management, and other regional support functions.
  • Meet legislative and Compass HSQA requirements by respecting operational objectives.
  • Manage daily/weekly/monthly work schedule.
  • Schedule audits and training sessions.

  • Post-secondary education with a focus on Health & Safety, Food Safety, Quality Assurance, or other related curriculum.
  • Specialized training in H&S claims management, quality assurance, public health, food safety, or quality management is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Occupational Health & Safety, public health, food safety, quality assurance, or a related compliance role.
  • CRSP, CHSC, CPH, HACCP, GFSI, or other continuous health and safety or food safety education preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; comfortable with other technology such as smartphones and tablets preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with technical and theoretical principles of Occupational Health & Safety, workplace risk management, and/or Quality Assurance (food safety).
  • Complete understanding of applicable laws, regulations, and standards is an asset, including OHSA, relevant regulations, and food safety requirements.
  • Experience conducting workplace inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, ergonomic evaluations, audits, and corrective action follow-up is considered an asset.
  • French language skills would be an asset but are not required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
