Role Overview: Health and Safety Coordinator

The Health and Safety Coordinator develops, administers, and implements company-wide occupational safety programs, serving as the key contact for safety within one or more divisions or departments. Responsibilities include planning, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating safety programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct safety orientations, training, site inspections, and audits.
  • Stay updated on amendments to Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations, recommending their implementation.
  • Perform safety compliance inspections, risk assessments, hazard analysis, and report writing.
  • Monitor adherence to safety programs by employees and subcontractors.
  • Organize and conduct safety training sessions on topics like WHMIS, Fall Protection, PPE, CPR/First Aid, etc.
  • Coordinate activities of occupational safety personnel and safety initiatives.
  • Provide safety guidance and standards compliant with industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead investigations of incidents, analyze data, and develop safety improvements.
  • Develop and deliver safety training tailored to various workgroups.
  • Collaborate with departments on safety inspections and investigations.
  • Advise management on safety issues and best practices.
  • Lead or participate in safety teams and initiatives.
  • Mentor less experienced safety personnel and provide training to management.
Qualifications:
  • Certificate or degree in a related field.
  • Safety certifications (e.g., CRSP, WHMIS) are a strong asset.
  • 3-5 years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of WS&H regulations and Act.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database applications.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, and team-focused.
  • Knowledge of concrete formwork, demolition, and heavy civil work is an asset.
  • Certification under the Occupational Health & Safety Act/Regulations is preferred or in progress.
