Job summary

Thyssen Mining is seeking a Safety Coordinator for an Ontario-based project to oversee safety programs and ensure regulatory compliance. This on-site role requires coordinating audits, incident investigations and ensuring policies are followed across sites.

You will manage workers' compensation processes, maintain required certifications, and liaise with multiple departments to promote a safe working environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have Ontario Underground Hardrock Miner Common Core and NORCAT Certificate.
  • Experience as Safety Coordinator in mining or construction.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits/inspections to ensure policy compliance and report findings.
  • Assist in managing workers' compensation and return-to-work programs.
  • Oversee incident investigations and communicate recommendations.
  • Uphold company safety, HR, payroll and other policies.
  • Maintain required certifications and stay current with industry developments.
  • Clarify subordinates' duties and manage accordingly.
  • Coordinate with other departments to meet requirements.
  • Maintain good client relations and promote company interests.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate and project policies.
  • Stay current on safety and cyber security training.
  • Site-based role with 10-12 hour days.

Job description

Thyssen Mining is a full-service underground mining contractor with several projects in Canada and the US. Thyssen Mining is looking for a Safety Coordinator for project in Ontario.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake regular audits/inspections of operations to ensure policy and procedures are implemented and being used, and that projects are in compliance with regulations, legislation and standard operating procedures. Report findings to line and senior management for rectification of deficiencies.
  • Assist in managing Worker Compensation claims, return to work and modified work programs.
  • Conduct and/or oversee incident investigations and ensure recommendations are communicated effectively to all sites.
  • Ensure that company policies are implemented and adhered to for areas under your control and developed where appropriate to ensure consistent performance and consistent management.
  • Maintain your qualifications in keeping with the industry requirements. Keep abreast of developments and participate in committees as required to maintain the necessary industry contacts and information exchange.
  • Ensure that the accountabilities and responsibilities of subordinates are clearly communicated to those employees and that they are managed according to those accountabilities and responsibilities.
  • Liaise with other departments as required to fulfill the requirements of your position.
  • Ensure that good relations are maintained with our clients and that the company’s interests are promoted at every opportunity.
  • Policies – Ensure that Thyssen Mining’s policies are adhered to with regards to safety, environment, assets, HR, recruitment, payroll and other polices as they are implemented from time to time.
  • Adherence to all corporate and project policy, processes and procedures.
  • Stay up to date on training as per corporate safety & cyber security programs.
Required Knowledge And Compentencies
  • Support and promote Corporate Health & Safety practices.
  • Able to adapt and learn or accept as required.
  • Strong team player with both technical and non-technical people.
  • Must exhibit exceptional organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Has a methodical and detail-oriented approach to work practices.

  • Computer usage – operations specific software
  • You must have Ontario Underground Hardrock Miner Common Core and NORCAT Certificate and previous experience as a Safety Coordinator in the mining or construction industry.

This is a site-based position with a schedule working 10-12 hours per day.

Thyssen Mining offers a comprehensive compensation package $28/hr plus bonus, including medical, dental, group RSP and life insurance.
