Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Vancouver is seeking a Safety Co‑Op/Internship for 4- or 8-month terms starting January 2027. This full-time role (40 hours/week) offers hands-on safety experience on an active construction project or in the Vancouver office, under supervisor guidance.

Applicants are enrolled in an accredited Occupational Safety & Health program with a keen interest in construction safety, incident reporting, and training coordination. Flexible to site and office work settings.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

THE SAFETY CO-OP/INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Turner Construction’s Vancouver office is currently seeking students, recent graduates, or individuals interested in an 4- or 8-month Safety Co‑Op/Internship opportunity for 2027 January semester. This is a full‑time position (Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week) that offers hands‑on experience either on‑site at an active construction project or at our Vancouver office, depending on the assignment.

The Safety Co‑Op/Intern assist in activities associated with safety and loss control while working on construction project or office location. As a Safety Co‑Op/Intern, you will:

• Assist with implementing Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday) and project safety program while working on construction project or office location and under direction by supervisor.
• Assist with identifying and reporting safety violations or unsafe practices, with emphasis on situations of imminent danger to life or property.
• Assist with coordination of safety duties for joint health and safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
• Assist with coordination of training at safety meetings, tool box meetings, and orientations.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with company policies.
• Assist with promoting safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with company, Federal and Provincial regulations, including applicable WorkSafeBC requirements, and owner/contractual requirements.
• Assist with administration of drug and alcohol screening program (e.g., pre‑employment, post‑incident, random, cause) aligned with company and/or client requirements and applicable Canadian and British Columbia requirements.
• Assist with preconstruction meetings and conducting research. Document meetings under direction of supervisor.
• Assist with conducting jobsite and work area inspections and assist with developing inspection summary.
• Assist with maintaining safety records (e.g., pre-task plans, Job Hazard Analyses, training records, tool box meetings, WorkSafeBC‑required records and documentation, maintenance of SDS and chemical inventory sheets, incident investigations and metrics).
• Assist with conducting effective worker orientation program for new employees and administer and record participation.
• Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned and under direction of supervisor.

• Enrolled and actively pursuing college or university accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, and minimum of 1 year of completed education, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques
• Desire to work in construction management and to learn about construction industry
• Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by assignment
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement
