Job summary

Clear Destination Inc. is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to support two Ontario manufacturing facilities in implementing and improving health, safety, and environmental programs.

You will advise site leadership on regulatory compliance, hazard identification, risk control and continuous improvement initiatives. Travel between sites is expected, with occasional travel to other provinces and after-hours availability.

Qualifications

• College or university degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in the chemical or petrochemical industry is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture by supporting managers in OHSA compliance and corporate policies.
• Act as subject matter expert to managers, supervisors and employees on legal responsibilities and HSE best practices.
• Influence operational decisions by integrating risk management and prevention principles into daily operations.
• Build partnerships with leadership to promote visible safety leadership and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee activities and ensure follow-up on recommendations and action plans.
• Conduct workplace inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Participate in incident investigations and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain risk assessments, JSA, safe work procedures and risk controls.
• Maintain and improve site HSE programs (lockout/tagout, confined spaces, respiratory protection).
• Support SDS and WHMIS programs, and coordinate emergency preparedness and drills.
• Assist in MLITSD inspections and follow-up compliance actions.

Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Regulatory Compliance, theHealth, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor is responsible for supporting two manufacturing facilities in the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of health, safety and environmental programs.

The incumbent acts as a trusted advisor to managers to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), applicable regulations, and provincial and federal environmental requirements.

The HSE Advisor contributes to the development of a strong safety culture by supporting the sites in hazard identification and risk control, participating in incident investigations, coordinating training activities, monitoring action plans, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

The incumbent provides recommendations to plant management regarding regulatory compliance, prevention initiatives, capital investments, corrective actions, and strategic directions related to health, safety and environmental performance.

THE CHALLENGES WE HAVE FOR YOU

• Coordinate the activities of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and ensure follow-up on recommendations and action plans.
• Conduct workplace inspections to identify hazards, assess risks and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Participate in incident, accident and near‑miss investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and their effectiveness verified.
• Develop, maintain and review risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), safe work procedures and risk control measures.
• Maintain, improve and ensure compliance of site-specific HSE programs, including lockout/tagout, confined spaces, respiratory protection and other applicable programs.
• Support the management and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) program.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, organize emergency response drills and contribute to maintaining site emergency readiness.
• Support managers during inspections, investigations or visits conducted by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) and ensure timely follow‑up of any compliance orders or recommendations.
• Collaborate with Human Resources on Return‑to‑Work (RTW) programs and support claims management activities with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
• Develop, organize and deliver internal HSE training programs, coordinate external training and contribute to the competency development of managers and employees.
• Support environmental compliance activities, including Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA), Environmental Emergency (E2) Plans and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate in the management of hazardous materials, waste management, recycling programs and environmental sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing the organization’s environmental footprint.
• Monitor HSE performance indicators, analyze trends, prepare performance dashboards and provide recommendations to support management decision‑making and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Corporate HSE, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Human Resources and other company locations to harmonize best practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate occasionally in corporate audits, compliance assessments or special projects at other company facilities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

THE SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Your Education :

• College diploma or university degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or another related field.

Your Knowledge :

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in the chemical or petrochemical industry is considered an asset.

Your Skills And Attitudes :

• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its applicable regulations.
• Strong understanding of WHMIS requirements.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to industrial operations.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 standards is considered an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver's licence.

Work Conditions :

• Flexible 40-hour work week.
• Frequent travel between two manufacturing facilities in Ontario.
• Occasional travel to other provinces.
• Must be available outside regular working hours on an occasional basis to respond to emergency situations.
