Job summary

Nitta Gelatin Na in Toronto, ON is seeking an experienced EH&S leader to oversee safety and environmental programs within a manufacturing setting. The role requires ensuring compliance, leading incident investigations, and driving continuous improvement across regulatory reporting and training.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Environmental, Health & Safety

• Through the auditing program, ensure employee compliance to the company's safety and environmental systems.
• EH&S incident investigation and reporting.
• Leads site EH&S training.
• Monitors, maintains, and develops Company Safety programs.
• Primary contact with Toronto Water and MECP on environmental regulatory issues.
• Primary contact for community concerns.
• Maintains & develops the internal EH&S auditing program.
• Main contact for Fire Department, owns fire protection plan.
• Co-ordinates employee safety & JHSC meetings. Maintains and summarizes key KPIs related to environmental issues.
• Monitors, maintains, and develops Company Environmental programs.
• Manages effluent treatment system with a "Hands-On Approach".
• Manages hazardous waste, waste and recycling disposal contractors.
• Waste water spill reporting.
• CHEMTRAX reporting.
• NPRI reporting.
• EASR Reporting.
• Stays up-to-date on all Federal, Provincial and Municipal reporting requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.

Plant Services

• Manages building security (keys, key fobs, etc).
• Updates Nitta TV and physical bulletin boards.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED

• Bachelor's Degree preferred in an applicable technical or business field or equivalent experience in an EH&S role.

TRAINING AND SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

• Minimum 5 years' experience with Safety Standards (OHSA), WHMIS.
• Experience with Municipal, Provincial, and Federal environmental regulation.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Minimum 5 years' experience with Environmental and Safety Standards in a manufacturing environment. 4-year degree or higher will be considered in lieu of experience.
• Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal safety and environmental regulations.
• Strong knowledge of municipal sewer by-laws preferred but not necessary.
• Experience conducting safety audits and inspections and developing and implementing corrective action plans.
• Strong training and communication skills, and experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
• Experience investigating incidents and accidents and developing and implementing preventive measures.
• MS Office Intermediate level is mandatory. Advanced level is an asset.
