Our Calgary Head office is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor for a 19-month Maternity Leave coverage to support our diverse operating companies. This is a full-time temporary, in office position.
Main Functions
Reporting to the Corporate Safety Manager and working closely with operational leadership, the Safety Advisor will be responsible for the successful implementation, administration and reporting of EFC safety programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with Safety Management System (SMS), policies, and standards. This position is located on site and is based out of our Calgary Head office location; however, it is required to support and work at any EFC Group site as required.
Responsibilities
- Promote, implement, and maintain Health and Safety projects and initiatives.
- Ensure all regulatory, legislative and industry standards are adhered to including Transport Canada, Canada Labour Code and OH&S regulations, standards, and practices.
- Ensure compliance with corporate, site specific and customer policies and procedures, including EFC’s Ground Operations Manual and Safety Management Systems, through staff training and guidance and leading by example.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of the various operations throughout the EFC Group of Companies identifying and rectifying any hazards or concerns and completing post audit follow-up.
- Maintain safety records and reports.
- Support the implementation, management, and smooth operation of the digital Safety Management System (SMS) platform.
- Support and coordinate the functions of the Workplace Health and Safety Committee by leading monthly meetings and providing ongoing assistance. Respond to incidents, near misses, and hazard ID reports appropriately, as required, including communicating, training, coaching, and following up with managers, supervisors, and employees.
- Follow up with sites about health and safety initiatives, records, and incident findings.
- Manage, maintain, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Work closely with Human Resources and operational leaders to manage and reduce workplace injury/disability claims.
- Encourage and promote positive and effective safety and quality culture through communications initiatives and coaching.
- Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
- Ensure exceptional, courteous, and respectful customer service.
- Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
- Perform any other duties as assigned to support the continuing success of the safety department.
Qualifications And Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a safety role, preferably with exposure to field operations.
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent.
- Experience in the aviation industry with direct knowledge of operations in an airport facility with understanding of ramp, fuelling ground operations, airport and aerodrome operations is preferred.
- Valid First Aid Certificate is preferred.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license (No Graduated Driver’s License or restrictions permitted) and clean Driver's Abstract are required as a condition of employment.
- Ability to be on call is required.
- Able to obtain a RAIC security clearance.
- Experience with incident investigation (preferably DNV SCAT system), workplace inspection and job hazard analysis is preferred.
- Proficient computer skills, MS office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and business communication.
- Familiarity with the digital transformation of Safety Management System (SMS) platforms is preferred.
- Energetic, self-motivated, creative and especially positive outlook.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills, including the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Highly motivated and able to work with minimal or no supervision.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- A strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Professional, punctual, meticulous, and diligent.
- Able to work collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
