We Invite Applications For The Position Of

  • Program Worker - Interpreter - Elementary/Secondary, 27.95-28.75 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The current pay rate is $34.07 per hour plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits (equivalent to $39.62 per hour).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts preferred; a diploma in Sign Language Interpretation combined with coursework in ASL-English and Interpreting will be considered.
  • Active membership in provincial and/or national interpreter associations such as WAVLI.
  • At least two years of interpreting experience; experience with school-aged populations is preferred.
  • Proficiency in ASL for message equivalent interpretations.
  • Willingness to support inclusive, differentiated instruction with adapted and modified curricula.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Duties/Responsibilities

Under supervision of the school/district Principal or Vice Principal and the Director of Inclusive Education, duties include:

  • Providing classroom interpreting for deaf and hard of hearing students, staff, and peers.
  • Offering tutorial assistance to deaf and hard of hearing students and others when needed.
  • Carrying out personal and health care routines as directed.
  • Interpreting at extracurricular activities and parent meetings.
  • Participating in student observation, data collection, and EIP implementation.
  • Collaborating with school teams and agencies as requested.
  • Maintaining safety, professionalism, and a positive working environment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned, including student supervision.

Locations are determined by Inclusive Education and are subject to change.
