Job description

We invite applications for the position of:
  • Education Assistant: Elementary - French, 5.59 hours per day, 1 to 4 days per week. The current rate of pay is $31.58 per hour plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits.
  • Written and oral French language fluency is required.
  • Locations are anticipated to be at Ecole Robb Road and Ecole Puntledge Park Elementary.
Qualifications:

Grade 12 education supplemented by Human Services Worker program certificate and Autism training such as Provincial Outreach Program for Autism & Related Disorders (POPARD). Valid Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification is preferred. One year recent experience supporting students with diverse learning and behavioural needs such as chronic health impairments, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, learning and intellectual disabilities. French language proficiency. Ability to work effectively with staff and students. Willingness to work in an inclusionary setting supporting differentiated instruction with adapted and modified curriculum. Valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license and license appropriate to the type of equipment/vehicle being operated, with a personal vehicle available for work is preferred. Meets the physical requirements of the position. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the school Principal or Vice Principal and the Principal of Inclusive Education or designate, the successful candidate will:

  1. Provide support in French to individual students or small groups across multiple settings at the elementary level.
  2. Support classroom instruction, activities of daily living, and behaviour support in accordance with individual education plans.
  3. Carry out personal and health care routines as directed.
  4. Provide information to school-based teams, itinerant staff, or relevant agency personnel as requested.
  5. Facilitate inclusion of students with special needs into class and school activities.
  6. Assist students in off-site program activities as required.
  7. Participate in student observations, data collection, and the implementation of education and behaviour plans.
  8. Follow proper work procedures, observe all regulations, maintain good working relationships, and promote a healthy learning environment.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and supervise student activities as required.
