Duties:

The rTMS Technician plays a crucial role in our Neuromodulation Research Clinic by administering repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) treatments in accordance with established protocols. This program is dedicated to the advancement of interventional rTMS treatment strategies in clients diagnosed with difficult-to-treat mood disorders, primarily major depression.
This role involves administering rTMS treatments, monitoring client care, and updating health records. Other responsibilities include educating clients, families, and mental health professionals about rTMS, performing data entry and maintaining client records, administering standardized assessments, and providing regular updates to supervisors and care providers.
The rTMS Technician is responsible for administering rTMS treatments while adhering to safety and quality assurance standards set by the Institute of Mental Health Research and ROMHC. This role demands a commitment to excellence and may involve additional duties as assigned.
Duties:
- Administer rTMS treatments and determining motor thresholds, following established clinic and regulatory protocols.
- Prepare patients for treatment by explaining the procedure and addressing any concerns.
- Monitor patients during sessions for comfort and safety, documenting any side effects or issues.
- Adhering to emergency protocols for adverse events.
- Reporting to rTMS physicians and coordinating follow-ups/safety checks as needed.
- Provide education and support to patients, their families and mental health professionals regarding rTMS and mental health.
- Perform data entry and administrative duties, including the maintenance of client files and health records.
- Maintenance of treatment schedule, main point of contact with clients for treatment scheduling, and appointment reminders (e.g. follow-ups with rTMS physicians)
- Administer standardized scales and self-report questionnaires.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Provide regular updates to primary care providers and supervisors on treatment progress and safety concerns.
- Adhere to the Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR) and ROMHC policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards, including safety and infection control.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Works in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.

Qualifications:
- At minimum an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Cognitive Sciences, Neuroscience, or another health-related field.
- Successful on-the-job completion of rTMS certification and training, potentially including the rTMS Training Program for Technicians at the Temerty Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, maintained yearly
- Minimum of six months experience in a clinical or medical research environment is desirable
- Basic understanding of research and clinical principles, ICH Good Clinical Practices, and relevant regulations.
- Experience or training in rTMS administration is a strong asset.
- Experience working with individuals with mental health diagnoses such as major depression, schizophrenia, or anxiety is a strong asset.
- Basic understanding of research and clinical principles, ICH Good Clinical Practices, and relevant regulations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to handle data entry and administrative tasks efficiently.
- Physical stamina to stand and engage in active tasks for 4-6 hours daily.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise across an interprofessional team is necessary.
- Motivated to work in a clinical research environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other data management systems such as REDCap is an asset.
- Ability to work independently, and able to exercise initiative and good judgment
- English level A- in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing is mandatory. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Salary Range:$32.32 to $37.26 per hour
