Job summary

WRHN Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital, KW Campus) invites applications for a Temporary Part Time Registered Practical Nurse (UNIFOR Service) in Day Surgery. The RPN will work in pre and postoperative areas, delivering direct patient care across age groups following Nursing Practice standards.

Requirements include current Ontario nursing registration, collaboration and surgical proficiency across multiple procedures, with Enhanced Skills upgrade preferred.

Qualifications

• Current Registration Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Ability to work in pre and postoperative areas with patients of varying ages.
• Surgical expertise in orthopedic, general, gynecological and pediatric procedures.
• Capable of functioning in fast-paced clinical settings with varying acuity.
• Preferred Enhanced Skills Upgrade (e.g., Medication Administration, Assessment).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care in pre and postoperative areas for patients undergoing surgery.
• Perform nursing duties within the RPN scope and standards.

Position Summary :

The Day Surgery Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works in pre and postoperative area, provides direct care for patients of various ages who have undergone a variety of surgical procedures. The RPN will function within the Job Description of a Registered Practical Nurse and the College of Nurses Standards of Nursing Practice for Registered Practical Nurses.

Position Requirements:

• Current Registration Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Collaboration and communication skills with patients and health professionals
• Demonstrated surgical expertise in orthopedic, general, gynecological and pediatric surgery
• Ability to function effectively in clinical areas with rapid pace and high turnover
• Ability to adapt to various clinical settings and provide appropriate nursing care to patients whose acuity and degree of illness vary
• Preference will be given to a Registered Practical Nurse who has successfully completed Registered Practical Nurse Enhanced Skills Upgrade (e.g. Medication Administration, Assessment skills, etc.)
• Flexibility, reliability and dependability
• Good attendance record
