A marine adventure company in Newfoundland and Labrador seeks a Submarine Pilot and Marine Technician to manage and operate a fleet of submersibles. The ideal candidate will have five years of experience in heavy marine and private yachting sectors, with strong mechanical skills and the ability to operate sensitive marine equipment. Job description

Canadian Flagged Vessels – Submarine Pilots/Technicians – ROV Pilots/Technicians for our Explore 95’ MY and 110′ MY.

Canadian Adventure Charters is developing Charter Adventures, Submarine Dive Expeditions, Exploration, Treasure & Shipwreck Recovery, Climate Change‑Global Warming Research, Underwater Film/Documentary Entertainment and promoting Newfoundland & Labrador and The Northwest Passage. Destinations include our selected charter operations loop to Spain, Canary Islands, Bahamas and Fort Lauderdale.

Work Experience And Marine Certificates Requirements

• All applicants must have previous experience working on a yacht.
• All applicants must have previous experience working in Arctic or Antarctic, MED climate conditions.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in heavy marine offshore commercial industry.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in private yachting adventure/exploration industry.
• Submarine pilots/technicians will receive a 3‑person mini‑submarine safety management/pilot‑operator training course. Certificates and licences will be provided.

Role Overview

As a Submarine Pilot and Marine Technician, you will help manage and operate our fleet of manned submersibles and support vessels. The position requires a combination of strong mechanical and interpersonal skills, the ability to work on sensitive marine equipment, perform regular maintenance, and operate complex systems to support dive operations. This is not an ocean sciences or marine research position and offers an excellent opportunity for a high‑energy professional seeking long‑term growth.

Requirements

• Current Canadian citizenship and a valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, fit through a 28‑inch diameter ring, and lift 50+ lbs.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience operating submersible vehicles (manned and unmanned).
• Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office and hydrographic survey & charting software, including Hypack/Hysweep.
• Demonstrated competence in operation of half‑duplex communication devices.
• Basic seamanship and safe operation of small boats.
• Ability to travel domestically and abroad (approx. 60% of the year) and work offshore for weeks at a time.
• Positive, energetic, with a good sense of humour.
• Physically fit and comfortable working outside in variable weather conditions.
• Professional, dependable, and detail‑oriented.

Desired

• Working knowledge of electrical systems, electronics, hydraulics, oxygen systems, and pneumatics.
• Knowledge of submersible and oceanographic systems.
• Rigging or crane experience.
• Open‑water SCUBA certification.
• A bachelor’s degree in hydrographic survey, oceanography, marine sciences, or related field.

Key Accountabilities

• Maintain submersibles and ensure all systems are in complete working order and comply with technical requirements.
• Execute planned maintenance of submersible systems and maintain complete technical records and logs.
• Follow and adhere to established checklists for pre‑ and post‑dive operations.
• Install and maintain electrical devices and other sensitive components on submersibles.
• Carry out general shop operations and team duties as required.
• Support shore‑side and topside operations during missions in local and remote environments.
