Job Title: Marine Project Manager

Position Overview

Canadian Adventure Charters (CAC) is seeking a highly qualified, Canadian‑resident Marine Project Manager to lead the technical management, regulatory compliance and design‑forward modernization of our elite fleet of ice‑classed expedition and deep‑sea research vessels, including submersible support platforms. This is a key leadership role that combines advanced engineering and project management skills with deep regulatory knowledge and a commitment to luxury, innovation and operational excellence in remote and polar environments.

The ideal candidate is a resident of Canada and holds full Canadian and international marine certifications and licenses, including Transport Canada endorsements, STCW compliance and experience with international operations under SOLAS, MARPOL and the Polar Code.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Engineering Oversight

• Manage all technical systems onboard CAC vessels including propulsion, automation, hull integrity, submersible support systems and scientific equipment.
• Lead dry dockings, refits, system upgrades and submersible and helicopter platform integrations.
• Develop and execute detailed planned maintenance strategies across the fleet.
• Evaluate vessel performance reports and propose technical improvements and efficiency upgrades.

Interior Design & Vessel Conversion Management

• Work directly with award‑winning international yacht designers to oversee high‑end luxury interior fit‑outs, ensuring alignment between aesthetics and technical feasibility.
• Manage interior retrofits and hospitality systems tailored to elite guests, researchers and VIP stakeholders.

Classification, Regulatory, and Insurance Compliance

• Maintain ongoing compliance with DNV, Transport Canada, IMO, Port State Control and relevant flag state authorities.
• Prepare and manage all vessel documentation including SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, ISO certificates; Arctic/Polar Code compliance; dry docking surveys and renewal inspections; safety construction and equipment certifications.
• Liaise with P&I insurance companies, hull & machinery underwriters and marine risk inspectors to ensure coverage alignment and minimise liabilities.

Polar/Arctic Operations & Permits

• Coordinate operational approvals, permits and regulatory clearances required for expeditions into Canada’s Arctic and international polar regions.
• Ensure full compliance with Polar Code regulations and Canada’s Arctic Shipping Safety and Pollution Prevention Regulations (ASSPPR).
• Oversee outfitting and readiness for cold‑climate survival, ice‑navigation equipment and emergency response systems.

Project Delivery & Shipyard Supervision

• Manage complex technical projects including new builds, refits and scientific retrofits.
• Coordinate with shipyards, naval architects, engineering firms and suppliers.
• Maintain accountability for project scope, budgets, safety and delivery schedules.

Crew Relations & Leadership

• Serve as a technical advisor to onboard Masters and Chief Engineers.
• Conduct vessel visits, performance evaluations and technical mentorship.
• Support recruitment and selection of senior engineering and technical crew.

Required Qualifications

• Resident of Canada and legally authorised to work both domestically and internationally.
• Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture or a related discipline.
• Chief Engineer (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency or equivalent Canadian/International license.
• Full compliance with Canadian marine regulations, STCW, SOLAS and MARPOL requirements.
• Minimum 10 years of marine technical management, including experience with ice‑class vessels, deep‑sea research platforms, submersibles and scientific equipment integration, interior refits and conversions.
• Advanced knowledge of DNV classification, Transport Canada inspections, P&I insurance standards, marine casualty reporting, Polar operations and permitting processes.
• Proficiency with PMS systems, budgeting and marine technical software.

Preferred Assets

• Experience managing vessel construction, refits or conversions in Arctic and international waters.
• Certified ISM/ISO Auditor or equivalent regulatory qualifications.
• Project Management certification (e.g., PMP).
• Familiarity with hybrid or low‑emission propulsion systems.
