Job summary

Powerex Corp. invites applications for its Rotational Analyst Program starting January 2027, with expansion in Spring 2027.

The program targets bright, highly analytical graduates or near graduates with strong organization, communication, and teamwork skills. Participants rotate across teams in risk management, market policy, portfolio management, power scheduling and real-time trading, with potential conversion to a permanent Front Office role upon successful completion.

Qualifications

  • University degree in an analytical program such as Commerce (Finance, Accounting), Economics or Engineering
  • Strong analytical aptitude and ability to multi-task in a high-pressure environment
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Support multiple teams throughout the rotational program
  • Deal sourcing and assessment
  • Risk management including financial analysis, research and modeling
  • Portfolio management including monthly updates of financial models and support to trading activities
  • Power scheduling and transmission optimization
  • Realtime trading support (24/7/365)

Powerex Corp. has one open posting for our Rotational Analyst Program starting January 2027, with one or more additional postings starting Spring 2027. This program is designed for bright, highly analytical individuals who excelled in their high school and post-secondary education, and who are about to graduate University or have very recently graduated. If you are a self-starter who is passionate about energy and you have excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills, this may be an opportunity for you. Powerex intends for Rotational Analysts to convert to a permanent role in our Front Office following successful completion of the program. You will actively support a number of teams throughout the rotational program.

This will give you exposure to many aspects of our business including:

  • Deal sourcing and assessment.
  • Risk management; including financial analysis, research, and modeling
  • Market Policy and Compliance
  • Portfolio management; including monthly updating of financial models and providing support to
  • Power Scheduling and Transmission Optimization
  • Realtime Trading (24/7/365)

Your Rotational Analyst role is varied as it supports numerous teams throughout Powerex. Each successful candidates’ rotations will be customized to their individual skillsets and abilities.

Qualifications & Experience
  • The ideal candidate will have completed a University Degree in a highly analytical program such as Commerce (Finance, Accounting), Economics, or Engineering. Other qualifications/experience include:

  • Naturally high analytical aptitude (e.g. top 5-10% in high school in Calculus/Physics with minimal effort)
  • Ability to think critically, with the capacity to multi-task in a high-pressure environment
  • Advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Self-aware, humble, and intellectually curious
  • Adaptable to rapidly changing constraints, with quick-thinking and decision-making abilities and an innate sense of urgency
  • Energized by learning new things and engaging across a wide range of issues
  • Logical Thinker
  • Someone who recognizes each person plays a role in the success of a team

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, resilient, and determined

  • Required University level courses including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics, and some Finance courses
Preferred Attributes/ Qualities

  • Advance Placement level courses in High School or equivalent (Calculus, Physics, Statistics and Economics)
  • Currently registered to achieve your CFA designation or completed part or all of the CFA levels
