Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a Rotating Equipment Technical Lead to supervise engineers across nuclear projects. You will lead the technical work, review specifications and drawings, and ensure maintenance-based design considerations are met.

You will engage with clients, manage reports, and guide the team through design verification and equipment selection, complying with CSA/API/ASME standards and delivering on time and on budget.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
• Comprehensive knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA N285.4, CSA N299.1–4, API 610/612/613/614/616/617/619/670/671/686, ASME/ ANSI B16.5, ASME sections III & XI, PTC 6 & PTC 8.2.

Responsibilities

• Review and correct engineering work, including reports, rotating equipment specs, data sheets, drawings and tender packages.

Overview Candu Energy Inc. is looking to hire Rotating Equipment Technical Lead. This position requires qualified and experienced individuals who are self-starters possessing well-established and demonstrated supervisory skills, capable of working independently and leading a team of senior, intermediate and junior level mechanical equipment engineers. The individuals will work in a fast-paced team environment performing and leading engineering design services for Nuclear Power Plants within a matrix organization.

Your role

• Technically lead, supervise, mentor, coach and train a team of senior engineers, intermediate engineers and junior engineers.
• Supervise, review and correct the engineering work including development and preparations of technical reports, rotating equipment technical specifications, component specification sheets (data sheets), tender drawings, technical tender packages, vendor interface, review and technical evaluation of equipment bids, equipment purchase recommendations and all related technical activities and assigned duties.
• Assist the technical manager in the preparation of project schedules, deliverables, resource planning, project progress reports and maintain acceptable levels of cost and schedule performance indices.
• Effectively interact with peers and inter-discipline leads, attend all project meetings as required and project his point of view in a technically sound and a logically correct manner.
• Perform technical review of process flow sheets, detail drawings, equipment arrangement/layouts as well as sizing and/or selection of rotating equipment and components related to nuclear steam plant and balance of plant, with specific focus on ensuring the maintenance-based design features and ease of plant operation and equipment maintenance requirements are fully met.
• Interact with peers and other related disciplines and provide mechanical equipment design related input for the preparation of deliverables including technical specifications, component specification sheets, plant layout, inspection and test procedures, commissioning plans and registration design submissions for components and mechanical systems.
• Coordinate with clients on both large scale new and ongoing nuclear steam plants and balance of plant of considerable technical and commercial complexity and provide technical advice and guidance for the overall design and O&M recommendations for upkeep, economic and reliable operation of critical rotating equipment.
• Supporting manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning tasks at site.
• Review design reports, analysis reports, calculations, documents and drawings in support of design verification.
• Conduct technical meetings with peers, clients and suppliers, write and follow up action plans and prepare detailed technical reports.
• Conduct site visits at nuclear generating stations, construction sites and factories for inspection and testing of equipment.
• Provide engineering support to quality surveillance, manufacturing, assembly and testing with non-conformances.
• Review and approve supplier's capability to fabricate the required component within the applicable requirements with focus on equipment maintenance-based design.
• Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client and company procedures.
• Provide consultation and/or review of engineering quotation request packages and purchase requisitions.
• Must have strong technical knowledge and inter-personal skills with proven ability to guide and lead a team of junior and intermediate engineers, provide mentoring and coaching and impart training and knowledge transfer.

About You

• Comprehensive understating and working knowledge of CSA-N285.0, CSA-N285.4, CSA N299.1~4, API-610, API-612, API-613, API-614, API-616, API-617, API-619, API-670, API-671, API-686, ASME/ANSI B16.5 ASME section-III & section-XI, ASME-PTC 6 & PTC 8.2 and other related Canadian/US and International codes and standards.
• Working knowledge and understanding of all applicable software.
• A working knowledge of/ and establish experience using nuclear pressure boundary Codes and Standards is an asset.
• Knowledge of/and proven experience in rotating equipment design, plant O&M, failure modes effects analysis, rotor-dynamic and vibration analysis, operational performance, and reliability measures with specific focus on plant, environment and personnel safety.
• Solid understanding of process systems, equipment design, operation and maintenance procedures, materials, material selection and fundamentals of machine component design. Solid understanding and experience in rotating equipment sizing calculations, selection, and troubleshooting issues.
• Preparing, monitoring and reporting project schedules, resource planning and maintaining key performance parameters including cost performance index and schedule performance index.
• A strong and well recognized collaborator/team-player with an overall understanding and proven experience of inter-discipline coordination and interface with Clients, Process System, Electrical/I&C, Civil/Structural, Safety & Reliability, and Piping Engineers.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with focus on technical report writing.
