Job summary

Government of Alberta is seeking a roofer to install and repair roofing systems on sloped roofs, read blueprints, and supervise other workers. The role emphasizes safety and quality with manual outdoor work in Alberta.

Typical duties include installing built-up roofing, shingles, and tiles, reading plans, estimating material needs, and applying waterproof coatings. 7 months to less than 1 year experience preferred. Morning shifts available.

Qualifications

• 7 months to less than 1 year of experience in roofing or related trades.
• Proficiency reading blueprints, drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Install built-up roofing systems using asphalt felts, asphalt and gravel.
• Install or replace asphalt shingles, wood shingles and roofing tiles on sloped roofs.
• Read blueprints and specifications to determine work requirements.
• Repair or replace single-ply roofing systems and apply waterproof coatings to surfaces.

Tasks

• Install built-up roofing systems using materials such as asphalt saturated felts and hot asphalt and gravel


• Install or replace asphalt shingles, wood shingles and shakes and masonry or baked clay roofing tiles on sloped roofs of buildings


• Install roofing tiles on sloped roofs of buildings


• Install single-ply roofing system using waterproof sheet materials, such as modified plastics, elastomeric or other asphaltic compositions


• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements


• Repair or replace single-ply roofing systems


• Supervise other workers


• Apply waterproof coatings to concrete or other masonry surfaces below or above ground level


• Install and repair metal roofs using hand and power tools


• Estimate costs and materials
