Dedicated to sustainable employment, we emphasize career opportunities and empowerment for Indigenous communities across Canada. Join us and contribute to building a more inclusive future.

The Role

GrizzlyTrek is seeking experienced 40 ton rock truck operators to join our valued client's team on camp projects in the Fort McMurray region and across Alberta. This is full-time rotational work on a 14 days on, 7 days off schedule, starting at $28.00 to $35.00 per hour.

Flights are covered from either Calgary or Edmonton, and camp room and board is provided. These are project based roles, and our client keeps multiple heavy civil earthworks projects running, so operators who run clean are typically moved to the next project rather than laid off at completion.

What You'll Do
  • Haul and dump material to designated locations on site, running smooth and holding spacing
  • Load at the hoe or loader, position for the operator, and dump to grade at stockpiles, dumps, and build areas
  • Complete routine equipment inspections on tires, fluids, lights, and brakes before the truck moves
  • Run haul roads to right of way rules and radio protocol at all times
  • Watch for soft spots, edge conditions, and berm integrity, and report road problems to the grader or dozer crew
  • Adhere to project specifications and communicate with supervisors, operators, and ground personnel
  • Complete JSAs and FLHAs and take part in pre-job safety meetings each shift
  • Assist ground personnel, shovel out equipment tracks, and perform labour duties as required
What You Bring
  • Minimum 3 years recent seat time on 40 ton rock trucks in heavy civil, earthworks, road building, or mining
  • Comfortable hauling in heavy traffic on active haul roads, days and nights
  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to the departure airport
  • Valid safety tickets before start, as listed above. Bear Awareness must be the in class version.
  • CSA approved safety boots, minimum 6 inch and fully laceable
  • Able to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol screen and a fitness to work assessment
  • Able to live in camp and work a 14 and 7 rotation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Seat time on other sizes of rock truck or rigid haul truck
  • Class 1 or Class 3 licence
  • Previous northern Alberta or oil sands site orientation on file
Work Environment

The work is on active heavy civil earthworks, road building, and mining spreads. Shifts run 12 hours, days and nights, outdoors in all weather. Operators should be conditioned to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs, and should expect noise, vibration, and additional labour duties when the job calls for it.

If you are short one or two tickets, say so on your application. We work with candidates to get tickets current rather than setting the file aside.

What We Offer
  • $28.00 to $35.00 per hour to start, based on verified seat time
  • Flights covered from Calgary or Edmonton
  • Camp room and board provided
  • Ongoing project work across Alberta and Western Canada
  • Opportunities for overtime based on operational requirements
  • Life insurance: $100,000 employee / $10,000 spouse / $5,000 per child
  • AD&D insurance with critical illness and cancer coverage
  • Extended health care: drugs, hospital, hearing, orthotics, nursing
  • Paramedical services: chiro, physio, massage, mental health (annual coverage)
  • Vision care: glasses, contacts, laser surgery, and exams
  • Dental care: 80% basic ($2,500), 50% major ($2,500), $2,500 ortho for children
  • Travel insurance: up to $5,000,000 per incident (trips up to 90 days)
  • Ongoing training and career development support
