Job description

At Acrylic, we’re on a mission to build the fine art creation tools of the future and make art accessible to all while making it easier for creators to earn a living. We leverage robotics and machine learning to enable visual artists to produce textured artwork made with real paint on canvas — at scale.

We are looking for a robotics engineer to enhance our robotic painting environment. As a key member of the engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in hardware and software development, as well as work with the leadership team to customize MVPs as we reach product market fit. To be a good fit you should revel in a chaotic but exciting work environment and welcome new business and technical challenges on a daily basis.

  • We’re a robotics startup based in Montreal, QC , recruiting for a full time robotics engineer.
  • This role is in-person.
  • Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the spot is filled.
  • You’ll get to work with a small team making meaningful contributions to the company’s progress on a daily basis.

Why You Should Apply

  • Work at one of Canada’s most exciting early-stage startups — Be on the frontlines of an emerging industry, gaining hands-on experience in AI, robotics, and fine art.
  • Accelerated career growth — Learn directly from senior executives and take ownership of key business functions that impact revenue and market expansion.
  • A lightning-fast feedback loop — We promise you rapid iteration and direct mentorship, enabling you to develop far faster than you could imagine.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the leadership team to define product requirements, timelines and milestones.
  • Develop software for robotic operations, including global control algorithms, toolpath optimization, stroke generation, and error correction.
  • Develop hardware components for the robotic environment, including new tools, mounting, and components for production automation projects.
  • Assist the production team with order fulfillment.
  • GSD.

What we are looking for

  • An undergraduate degree and 1–2 years of experience in robotics, mechatronics, software, mechanical engineering or similar.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in designing, building, and deploying robotic systems for various applications.
  • Experience in developing motion planning and path / contour following algorithms for collaborative robot arms.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and object-oriented software development.
  • Proficiency in completing detailed designs for parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Experience in conducting and documenting mechanical analyses, including hand calculations, or low-level testing.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Commitment to staying updated on the latest advancements in AI and robotics through continuous learning and self-directed research.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.

Nice to haves :

  • Knowledge of machine learning and computer vision principles.
  • An artistic eye.
  • Someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who wants to learn in a dynamic workplace.
  • A self-starter who can find solutions to problems in their work.
