The Roads Operator I is responsible for tasks related to the daily operation and maintenance of municipal roads and infrastructure, including snow and ice control, drainage, paving, concrete work, signage, garbage collection, and general road cleanup. The role involves operating various power tools, hand tools, and vehicles such as pickup trucks and trailers, with opportunities to operate and train on heavier equipment. Additional duties include performing minor repairs, handling hazardous materials safely, supporting traffic control measures, adhering to safety regulations, and other related tasks as needed.
The role requires knowledge and experience in operating various equipment and hand tools, along with a solid understanding of public works construction and maintenance practices related to roads and drainage. Candidates must be in good physical condition, capable of performing heavy manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions, and able to work flexible hours, including shifts and emergency callouts. A strong grasp of safe working procedures is essential to ensure safety for oneself and the public. The position also demands the ability to work independently or collaboratively, and to interact courteously with the public and colleagues, even under pressure or tight deadlines.
