Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Collect patient information using observation, communication, and assessment skills.
  • Consult and collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team members.
  • Advocate for patient's rights to autonomy and respect.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and research.
  • Maintain safety for patients and staff according to established procedures.
  • Participate in orientation and education of nursing staff.
  • Actively engage in nursing committees for patient care improvement.

Skills

Understanding of scope of practice of other health care disciplines
Knowledge in the field of palliative care
Ability to apply clinical knowledge in practice
Decision-making in emergency situations
Effective communication
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Experience with patients with advanced illness
Problem-solving ability
Ability to operate related equipment
Physical ability to perform duties

Education

Graduation from an approved school of Nursing
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with BCCNM
One (1) year of recent acute medical/surgical or palliative care experience
