Rising Automation Engineer – OT & Control Systems

Job summary

TC Energy is seeking an Engineer-in-Training to support industrial automation and control systems across Canada Gas assets. You’ll work with experienced engineers, field specialists and technicians to gain hands-on OT experience with PLCs, HMI/SCADA, cybersecurity, and data systems.

The role emphasizes strong engineering fundamentals, curiosity and problem-solving, with opportunities to advance into complex design, reliability analysis and lifecycle improvements as experience grows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Must be registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training.
• 1 to 4 years of relevant engineering experience, including internship or co-op.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to approach unfamiliar problems logically.
• Willingness to learn from engineers, specialists and technicians.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve PLC, HMI, instrumentation, communications, and control system issues.
• Build OT expertise across automation, instrumentation, networking, cybersecurity, and data systems.
• Participate in rotational on-call program, supporting after-hours issues.
• Analyze asset data to identify recurring failures and improvement opportunities.
• Develop, test and implement automation software changes per MOC requirements.
• Support control system testing, commissioning and root-cause investigations.
• Assist with control system upgrades and lifecycle improvements.
