Job summary

TC Energy is seeking an Engineer‑in‑Training to support industrial control systems across Canada Gas assets. You’ll work with automation engineers, field technicians, and other disciplines to solve real operational problems and gain hands-on OT experience.

You’ll diagnose, test, and implement automation solutions, participate in on-call support, and contribute to control system upgrades while advancing your professional registration with APEGA. This role supports a hybrid work model in Canada.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• Must be registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training.
• 1 to 4 years of relevant engineering experience, including internship or co-op experience.
• Strong engineering fundamentals with interest in automation, controls, instrumentation, or OT.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to approach unfamiliar problems logically.
• Willingness to learn from engineers, specialists, technicians, and other experts.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve PLC, HMI, instrumentation, and control system issues affecting facilities.
• Build OT expertise across industrial automation, instrumentation, networking, cybersecurity, and data systems.
• Participate in rotational on-call program (approx. one week in eight) for after-hours support.
• Analyze asset data to identify recurring failures and reliability concerns.
• Develop, test, and implement automation software changes per engineering and Change Management requirements.
• Participate in testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and root-cause investigations.
• Troubleshoot secure network communications and data transmission between field and data centre systems.
• Support risk assessments and lifecycle risk identification for control systems.
