Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility for store cleanliness, maintenance, pet safety standards, and direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with pet parents in person, over the phone, at the sales register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for in-store pickup and ensure a positive experience.
• Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
• Display, fill, and recover products to meet sales standards.
• Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote events like adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents.
• Take immediate action when a sick or injured pet is identified, including transport to the vet.
• Assist in various store areas as needed and participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects frequently; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
• Lift up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift over 100 pounds occasionally.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate noise levels; handling live animals.
