Position Summary

The Granite Club is seeking a Retail Buyer to join our team! In collaboration with the Retail Operations Manager, the Retail Buyer is responsible for planning, selecting, purchasing, and displaying athletic and fashion items sold in Granite Gear. The role involves managing product selection to maximize sales and operating surplus, supporting the financial goals of Granite Gear. The Retail Buyer also develops and maintains relationships with vendors, stays informed of market trends, and manages internal orders for uniforms, giveaways, and merchandise featuring the Granite Club or Team Granite logos.

Primary Responsibilities

Purchasing

  • Liaise with existing suppliers and place orders to meet inventory and budget goals
  • Source new suppliers and products through catalogs, meetings, and trade shows
  • Monitor market changes, competitor prices, and product trends
  • Analyze sales data to anticipate member buying patterns
  • Gather feedback from members and staff on products
  • Manage clearance sales and inventory levels
  • Negotiate cost-effective merchandise programs
  • Mentor junior buyers and staff
  • Select partners to maximize profit margins
  • Implement strategies to increase profit margins, including discounts and volume purchasing
  • Plan store layouts in collaboration with visual merchandisers
  • Coordinate with visual merchandisers on displays and floor changes
  • Assist during sales events with setup and visual standards
  • Develop and install environmental displays and member communications
  • Review industry merchandising concepts and adapt best practices
  • Develop annual marketing and promotion plans with the Retail Manager
  • Coordinate vendor activations like trunk shows and pop-ups
  • Provide personal shopping support for members
  • Support sales initiatives as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

PK and Interdepartmental Planning & Marketing

  • Create training materials on new and existing products
  • Identify vendors offering discounts and quality products for internal orders
  • Develop giveaway ideas for internal departments
  • Collaborate with other departments and committees on event merchandise

Branding & Standards

  • Work with communications and Retail Manager to maintain brand and decoration standards for all apparel

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in purchasing/procurement across retail categories
  • Self-starter, organized, flexible, problem solver, team player
  • Attention to detail
  • College/University degree in related fields (asset)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Proven cost savings and process improvement experience
  • Vendor and supplier management skills
  • Strong analytical abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • Experience with private labels (asset)
  • Strong scheduling skills for deadlines
  • Willingness to travel for site visits and vendor meetings
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle
